It’s the first day of spring training and Jose Iglesias is already stuck in some netting after crashing into a screen. Not a great omen for the 2013 Red Sox season.

The Brewers are holding a contest in search of new uniform designs. Which, thank heavens, because the current Brewers uniforms have somehow managed to make a team named after beer boring.
Unfortunately, the contest winner will only see their uniform worn during a 2013 spring training game, but considering that a) spring training unis are one of the worst things one can see on the baseball field and b) if it’s a truly great uniform the team could soon adopt it, only good can come of this. Get full details on the contest here.
What’s there to be scared of anyway? After all, the last time a team held a fan design contest, we ended up with these:

Okay, so maybe a little concern is justified.

Apparently Ron Guidry, Cy Young Award winner and 4-Time All Star, drives Hall of Fame catcher Yogi Berra around Yankee Spring Training every year. Some might think, “How awesome is that?” Well, Harvey Araton of the NY Times thought the same thing — and wrote a book about it.

I’m sure there’s a scientific, physics-based explanation for why Jason Heyward’s bat  has transformed into a boomerang but I don’t care what it is
